The BBB Sprint Triathlon

Thankyou for all your comments and ideas about curing the blues! It seems I am not the only one that turns to exercise and yoga when stress starts to creep into my life.

This morning I woke up, and after being greeted with clear skies and sunshine,  I felt like working out. So work out I did.

I am MISSING the triathlon season so much, and there are no races coming up for months. So, rather than sit at home and complain about it, I decided to challenge myself to a homemade sprint triathlon of sorts!

Presenting the BBB Sprint Triathlon.

Swim

I started with a 750m swim. Although I would rather be swimming outdoors, the inevitable hypothermia that would result from an outdoor swim in winter meant that I opted to swim at our local indoor pool instead.

I completed the 750m in 17:02, changed into bike clothes and headed to the transition area….aka the carpark…

Ride

I jumped on my bike – and luckily for me, the ride  from the pool to home is just on 20km. This was a hard ride, lots of hills and a headwind….great combination!!

I made it home in 53:10 – not too bad considering the hills.

Run

I jumped off the bike, changed into my sneakers (and a t-shirt!) and hit the pavement for a 5km run. Mr BBB joined me for the run and I was grateful for his company.

I did a loop around the suburb, and finished the 5km in 29:12

Overall:

  • Swim 750m – 17:02
  • Bike 20km – 53:10
  • Run 5km – 29:12

Total time: 1:39:24

There may not have been any lakes, race bibs, real transition areas, marshals or finish lines, but I had a great time in the BBB Sprint Triathlon.

And the best part.....I came first!!!

(Hmmm or if you are a "glass half empty" person I guess I also came last.....)

After showers and lunch, Mr BBB and I headed to the local footy.

Armed with snacks, of course.

While our local team didn’t win, we had a nice relaxing afternoon and made the most of the sunny (albeit chilly) day.

We arrived home to the smells of a roast cooking in the oven. Sunday nights are family dinner night and it is nice to catch up with the family at the end of the week.

I contributed a peanut butter / oatmeal slice, made more decadent with the addition of dark chocolate chips.

I may, or may not, have snuck a slice before dinner….

Oh and a slice after dinner too ;)

Chewy and sweet….my kind of sweet treat.

What about you? What is your favourite sweet treat?

Happy Baking :)

  1. Aww that looks awesome.

My treat these dates is fresh dates - you know the fruit shop kind!

  2. Either dark chocolate (yeah, like *that's* a surprise) or something with peanut butter. Or maple syrup. Or all of those at once... :P

You're Number 1! You're Number 1! (Also, I think I recognise the area in your bike photo, but I could be mistaken by the similarity of some places in Canberra. Also, I'm hardly going to broadcast my guess here! :P)

  9. haha! what a great idea! Congratulations on your win :)

I went to watch my friend compete in his first triathlon this morning and I now totally have the itch to train for one!

As for favorite sweets, I'm a cupcake girl!

  10. I want to do a tri next year... and I think I should have my own before I take it public. Clever! If I want a quick sweet treat that doesn't involve an entire BATCH of something in my house, Lindt makes a Fleur de Sel dark-ish bar that's sweeter than my usual 90% with the thrilling bite of salt. Mm!

  13. Yum! These bas look delicious! I love the dark chocolate addition...it's my favorite sweet treat. Congrats on the tri...I love that you created your own! My husband and I map out different 5k's all the time and pretend they are races. We always think we are such nerds when we do :) Glad we're not the only ones out there!!

  15. What a great idea! Hearing about heading to watch the footie match made me a little "homesick" for the Saturdays spent watching Aussie Rules when I was an exchange student down under. The young kids would play in the morning and it would progress until mid-afternoon when the A-grade (I think that's what it was called) would play. We'd eat pasties and sausage rolls and drink plenty of beer to keep warm. LOL!

  18. after all that activity I think you deserved a few slices - I admire your energy but right now with it so cold outside I am just happy to be home on the couch - though part of me knows that there is something invigorating about riding a bike in the cold

  19. You rock! I wish I was a better swimmer. It's such good excercise, but I'm not strong at it one bit!

  20. oh how fun! Great split times! Can I race it next year? hehe!

  21. Way cool! I love that you can do the swim portion in the pool too. I'd rather do it outside as well but I'm also not looking forward to the mass hysteria and chaos of people swimming on top of me. I want to find a tri that has the swimming part in a pool...
