The Mystery Box needs YOUR help!

I am happy to report that today has been a big improvement on yesterday's travel dilemmas.

I was up and at the gym by 6.00am for an upper body weights session. Combine that with a 12km ride on the stationary bike, and I left the gym energised and ready to take on the day!

Unlike the last few weeks, this weekend  is jammed packed with lots of fun things:

  • Dinner tonight with friends
  • A swim + run combination tomorrow
  • A friend's 30th birthday party tomorrow night
  • (Hopefully) a bike ride and yoga session on Sunday
  • Grocery planning and shopping
  • A "special" dinner on Sunday night with the family

So, while my weekend is filled with lots of fun dinners, in anticipation of our meal planning for next week, I turned to the Mystery Box for inspiration.

The chosen ingredients....

Saffron

and

Snow peas!

So, lovely readers, this is where the Mystery Box needs YOUR help! What do you think I should cook with these ingredients? I would love to hear your dinner suggestions and cant wait to try out two of them next week!

I don’t plan on using the ingredients together, and am seeking dinner inspiration for two nights. So feel free to leave a suggestion for both saffron AND snow peas :)

Happy (Friday) Baking :)

  1. With the saffron, how about a paella, or a bouillbaisse?

As for snowpeas - they are perfect in any stirfry, but I think they go particularly well with a blackbean sauce :)

  2. Lol I never cook with either so I won't be much help.

    What about a saffron risotto?

  3. I'm with skinny latte. Paella popped into my mind as soon as I read saffron.

  4. I haven't cooked with either, really. I would say maybe cashew chicken for the snow peas; you could side it with saffron rice, but I'm not sure that those flavors would mix well.

And NOW I have "They call me mellow yellowwwwwwwww..." stuck in my head. :D

  5. i was thinking saffron risotto (i've been meaning to make it since i got back from italy), or paellla...

snow peas? i usually eat them, but they go great on salads. I think I paired them with grapes and feta once...

  6. Seems we're all thinking saffron rice.. but how about a saffron pannacotta? And snow peas... shred them into a thai salad with a dressing of lime juice, fish sauce, palm sugar, and chilli, and pretend it's summer :)

  8. I'm compeltley useless for you on this one Lisa, I've never cooked with saffron and I usually just eat my snow peas raw as a snack :)

Glad things are going better today

  11. Until these comments, I always thought saffron was mostly used in baking or with sweet foods... interesting! Looking forward to the end result!

  12. I agree with Simply life, go with Paella.

  13. my thoughts were paella and fried rice - though you could always combine these for the saffron and do a yellow rice pud - that would be cool

  14. Paella is always a classic choice for saffron, you could try making it with the smoked rice at Essential Ingredient, or a nice Pannacotta is good too. Check out my blog for some photos of real saffron grown right here in Canberra! Snow peas are yummy stuffed with goats cheese or just shredded and stirfried. Good lock!
