Wow – where did the weekend go?
Suddenly I find that it is Sunday night and I am wondering what I have been doing all weekend. Although, admittedly, I did fit in a long bike ride yesterday, a hair cut, drinks with friends, and a rugby-watching party last night.
Not to mention some homemade tandoori pizza…
Served with a mesculun/ avocado and sunflower seed salad.
A great dinner, although not a great rugby result…..
And then there was today….
Mr BBB and I were up early this morning for …. a team duathlon!
The “race” was a team event, in which both members of the team completed a 2km run, and a 9km cycle, with the winning team being the one that was closest to its “guessed” completion time.
There were over 50 teams competing in the event, but it was informal and friendly, and well organised.
Mr BBB and I estimated a finishing time of 1:05:30, and although I suspect we were a little over, we had a great time racing together (albeit sans watches and trip computers)!
But, don’t let the sunny skies fool you, it was FREEZING this morning.
Mr BBB headed out for the first 2km run, while I remained in the transition area trying to keep warm. He soon arrived back in the transition area, and tagged me so I could start the first 9km cycle leg.
I made the mistake of forgetting my gloves and my hands were FROZEN even before I started the bike leg!!!
Seriously, I think that was my “I CAN’T FEEL MY FINGERS FACE” ….
It was only as I was rounding the bend for the last 500m or so that I finally got feeling back in my fingers. Not a fun ride at all.
But I did make it back and tag Mr BBB so that he could head out for his 9km ride.
The last leg of the event was a 2km run for me. I loved this short and speedy run…
And it wasn’t long before the finishing line was in sight!
We were told after the race that the winning team were only 12 seconds “off” their guessed time. Not bad at all when you consider that all watches / trip computers were banned!
I am not yet sure how far “off” our time Mr BBB and I were, but I expect that it was around 4 or 5 minutes or so.
We spent the remainder of the day enjoying the sunshine, having lunch, and hanging out at our new ‘house’. It was fun to walk through each room, and discuss how we are going to set up our furniture etc when the house is completed! Lets just say, we can’t wait.
Before we knew it the sun started to set and it was time to go home. We have the family coming over to dinner tonight, and I found blueberries on sale, so a batch of blueberry muffins made an appearance not long after!
While these aren’t GF, I am sure the other family member’s will enjoy a little sweet treat after the Sunday Roast, lovingly cooked by Mr BBB’s mum.
Speaking of which, dinner awaits!
Happy Baking :)

It was SOOO cold this morning you are very brave ( and no gloves!!)
ReplyDeleteHow good is it when blueberries are on special, it’s such a rare occurrence I got a few punnets!
I love the idea of a race in which the winner isn't the one who is the fastest. Although I don't think I'd be in the running to be the winner of either type of race.
ReplyDeleteThere seem to be a lot of events on up there especially for the dead of winter.
A team duathlon sounds so much fun. I wish I could get my husband to do something like that with me. Maybe if I could find something short enough he would get out there with me. It's so cool that you two do that, it must be a great bonding experience.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun race! Mr BBB must be pretty crazy with the shorts and short sleeve combo he has going on ;).
ReplyDeleteAlso, that tandoori pizza... it looks good, even at 5:30 in the morning. Mmm.
I hope your fingers didn't suffer permanent damage! This morning was sooo cold!
ReplyDeletefun times with the hubs. I love it. We just made homemade pizza last night at well. Nothing beats it. Well maybe those muffins, if they were GF. hehe!
ReplyDeleteoh my, that pizza looks amazing..and nice work with the race!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Such a shame you didn't have the middle-of-the-day's weather for your race... it certainly got nicer later on! Hope dinner was worthy of your awesomeness.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun race! Where is my slice of pizza?
ReplyDeleteLook at all your yummy stuff, mmmmhmmm! Congrats on a great race and a gorgeous weekend, hon! :)
ReplyDeletethats so awesome- a team duathlon!!!! that wouldve been so fun! haha it looks like fall/autumn weather alomst huh!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Sorry your hands were cold! That's the worst. Sometimes my hands get cold on bike rides even if i have gloves.
ReplyDeleteThat race sounds like a lot of fun. It seems like your town/area plans a lot of fun outdoor healthy activities. I really like that.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really cool race format, I like that both team members get to bike and run but in a different order. I'm usually pretty good at predicting my race times, but only within a few minutes, and I don't know how well I'd do without any kind of watch or bike computer!
ReplyDeleteWell deserved! And u are brave to be out and about without gloves!
ReplyDeleteYou are so good Lisa! I must say that that meal looks delicious-I'm liking the generous amount of avocado in the salad too! :D
ReplyDeleteI am drooling at the tandoori pizza, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun event - I would love to do that with my hubby one day! The tandoori pizza and salad both look delicious - yum.
ReplyDeleteThat tandoori pizza looks AMAZING. I need that in my life now O__O
ReplyDeleteahh so THAT's what was going on down there. cool.
