To the Mountain we go….

If yesterday was all about adventures and theme parks, then today was all about the scenery and food wonders of the mountain. Tambourine Mountain to be precise.

It all started with a morning 5km run in the sunshine, and a healthy breakfast of fruit salad with a slice of date and walnut loaf.

Again, eaten alfresco. Nothing but blue skies and sea breezes!

After showering, we packed the car and headed to Mt Tambourine – a drive of approx 40 minutes. And it wasn’t long before we came across our first stop of the day…

The Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk!

Gorgeous rainforests, seen from the tree tops on suspended bridges and walkways…

And along bush trails…

So lush and green…

And so very exotic and mysterious!  After an hour or so, our tree top walk came to an end and it was time to get back to ‘reality’.  Our next stop was the Distillery, which was not only a quaint building hidden amongst the trees…

But also a cellar door offering tastings of liqueurs all made locally….

IMG_9837

We tried some unique flavours including wattle seed and cardamom, but walked away with our favourites – a bottle each of wild forest plum and bottle of bitters.

I can’t wait to use the plum liqueur in a dessert!

Our tummies were rumbling by this stage, so lunch was a must. Mr BBB loves German food so when we came across the Bavarian Haus – well lunch was a given.

We chose two dishes to share. Starting with the stuffed cabbage rolls, served with salad and rice.

Followed by a German sausage with potatoes, beans and, of course, sauerkraut.

And, if you are Mr BBB, it was all washed down with a pint of German lager.

Lunch was delicious, and the perfect fuel for an afternoon spent wandering the town, exploring the unique shops and being tempted by the local food fare.

We were quite restrained, but did come home with some old school lollies….

Chutney and relish from the spice shop…

And from my favourite shop of the day…

 IMG_9851

Triple cream brie, and goat gouda, produced on premises from cows / goats kept locally.

Oh my – this brie was to die for and will certainly be making an appearance for lunch sometime very soon.

Well, in case the day’s foodie adventures were not enough, it is time to head out for some local seafood! Here’s hoping we are lucky enough to have another sunny and warm day tomorrow.

Happy Baking :)

  6. Firstly, LOVE your breakfast - and that's some balcony you have :-).
I've done a few skywalks and they are fantastic. Will need to add this one to the list for the next time we visit the Gold Coast. Jealous of the cheese - sounds devine.

  7. I love the look of that goats cheese. SThis looks like my sort of trip. When we visit The Farm on the Sunshine Coast I take an extra suitcase for all the goodies I collect from the local markets, and even new gluten free products I find at different supermarkets. I have been known to bring home half a dozen frozen loaves of bread with me- it tasted like 'real' bread!
