Training: Swim / Aquathon (300/2.5/300/2.5)
Today started out innocent enough - with a 1.4km training swim in the pool, followed by our 'pre-completion' meeting at our new house to check that everything is in order.
It was about then that things got a little more complicated.
Confession: I am rather 'out-dated' when it comes to technology. I don't yet own a flat screen TV, haven't got a DVD player and although I have an IPod, the music it contains is somewhat random as I cant remember how to use the program to add new songs!
So, while arranging a new internet / phone / mobile connection sounds simple enough, for someone like me, this equals stress. And lots of it.
I arrived at the shop and the ever-so-patient sucker who had to serve me salesperson started discussing ADSL, modem thingys and wireless what-nots. I felt my eyes glaze over and knew this was not going to end well. Quite a few "so do I need to plug it in to the wall?" questions later, I walked out with a bundle of papers and brochures, most of which I don't understand, and no internet / phone / mobile connection. Ah yes, it seems that when things get too technical I just leave them for another day (perhaps hoping the technology fairies will come and work it out for me overnight?).
Feeling quite defeated after my technology FAIL, I was super keen for the clock to hit 5pm as I had plans that involved NO technology at all! Just swimmers, goggles and my running shoes....
My first 'race' of the season!
The triathlon season officially kicked off in Canberra this evening with an aquathon. While I have been training quite solidly over the last few months, I haven't raced in ages so I was actually a little nervous.
I chose to complete the long course - which involved a 300m swim / 2.5km run / 300m swim / 2.5km run. Its amazing how little equipment you need when there is no biking involved …the "transition" area looked so funny!
Swim / run / swim / run ..... now THAT is a technology I can handle :)
I actually have no idea what my time was – but I felt great throughout the race. Although my swims were painfully slow, I felt strong on the runs and managed to pass quite a few people. Training win!
By the time the race finished I was starving and it was starting to get late.
Solution:
GF pizza from Crust! Tonight we tried out Piri Piri Chicken,
And vegetable supreme,
Both of which were scrumptious!
Oh pizza it has been too long…
But unfortunately there is no time to longer as I must go and read those internet / phone brochures. Anyone wanna swap?
What about you? Are you a "technical" person? Any tips for a techno-phobe like me?
Happy Baking :)

Lisa, you've motivated me to become more active! :D And sorry I'm so not a technical person but hubby is so he's handy :P
ReplyDeleteOh, I completely get this. I just bought a new phone particularly for its 1GB a month internet mobile stick thing... and I can't get it to work. I really don't know what to do... I think I'm meant to use the CD to install something, but my laptop is so small there's no cd drive!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting yours all sorted!
That pizza looks great!
ReplyDeleteI'm not terrible with technology, however, I just purchased my first DSLR and it's a whole new headache lol
Lisa, GO YOU on the race front. Wowee you are an inspiration that is for sure. At look at the glow of happy healthfulness on that picture of you.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, as much as I'd hate to say it outloud, THOSE PIZZA'S look rocking. And you totally deserved them after the work you put in. Awesome stuff and keep up the good work.
As for technology, I'm a bit of a geek girl (but not very good at it). I have more technology than my husband, and am always on the lookout for the next greatest piece, but I am also like that with kitchen equipment too, so who know's what other addiction I would have in place of those if they did not exist.
As for a self confessed techno-phobe, like you said, I think you must be doing alright, not many techno-phobes would be running a sweet blog like this one!
Awesome! I love aquathons, but I've never done a swim/run/swim run (always just swim/run). Sounds crazy! Nothing like a cruisy after work race on a summer evening.
ReplyDeleteWell done on your race! Sounds gruelling, but awesome! :)
ReplyDeleteI am a technical person- I couldn't live without all my technology! My mum though is a techno-phobe, so I'm used to it! I always just advise her to try and work things out, because as soon as she thinks she won't be able to do something, she just asks someone else! She's getting better now, so maybe trying that might help you a bit :)
Wow those pizzas look good - lots of toppings which is cool.
ReplyDeleteI've been told I'm a technical person but I'm more of a person who presses all sorts of buttons and tries different things until something works!
I feel your technology pain! The boy left it in my incapable hands to organise a naked ADSL service (we have no home phone line) and my head seriously spun. So much so he got so frustrated and organised it himself - which I honestly didn't mean. Oops.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the first race of the season!
Oh I haven't tried Pizza from Crust yet. I have heard mixed reviews about it, but it looks very yummy.
ReplyDeletePizza looks amazing - seriously I'm technologically challenged too - my excuse is that I'm over forty :) I had a stroke of luck yesterday and received 12 x one on one personal training sessions with Apple for my Macbook :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with it,
Liz N
no tips on phone companies - apart from try and get it in writing - though it is impossible to even speak to a real person these days - but I can tell you that you are not alone - a colleague has spent hours on the phone with her broadband connection this week and is having a nervous breakdown over it - I am a technophobe too and don't even have an ipod!
ReplyDeleteMy technology tip is to ask my pre teen. She ALWAYS knows.. scary isn't it. I don't know how to put songs on my ipod either, and can rarely even get my blog photos to line up. Must try Crust soon, we usually go for gfree Dominos.
