Happy Monday! What a day it has been. Meetings + paperwork + plenty of other unexpected happenings = a very stressful start to the week. But hey, at least Mr BBB and I had our usual Monday night mountain bike ride to look forward to.
1 hour of gorgeous scenic trails. And, with every pedal stroke, I felt the stress of the day lessen, until I couldn't even remember why I was stressed in the first place! Ahh exercise....my ol' friend.
The stress-less theme continued when we arrived home to reheat dinner.
On the menu..."Sunday" roast.
This meal came about after I enjoyed a wonderfully tender slow roasted lamb shoulder last week at a local restaurant. It was stuffed with dates, and served with a rich sauce, that had me wanting to lick my plate clean. Ps. I totally would have, although being in public with a large group of family and friends stopped me. Had I been at home however..... ;)
So with the memories of this delightful dish in mind, while I headed to a Sunday afternoon Body Pump class, a date-stuffed shoulder of lamb spent the better part of 4 hours roasting in the oven.
On returning home from the gym, I opened the door and was confronted with the alluring aroma of roast lamb and sweet caramelised dates. My oh my how it brought back memories of Sundays past, when we would sit down as a family at the end of the week and enjoy effortless conversation over a hearty homecooked meal.
So last night Mr BBB and I sat down to enjoy our own Sunday roast.
Rich tender lamb, flavoured with garlic, dates and rosemary.
Shredded, and served atop a big bed of polenta.
With a side of green.
Drizzled with a luscious sauce - made using red wine, red currant jelly, worcestershire sauce, stock, mustard powder and lemon juice.
A deliciously rich end to the weekend.
Oh, and because of the leftovers, a deliciously rich start to the new week also!
What about you? Do you partake in the Sunday roast?
Happy Baking :)

oh that's awesome.
ReplyDeleteBeen ages since I've done a 'proper' roast. Need to christen the new oven!
We have roasts all the time, they are so accomodating just ticking away in the oven for hours.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely give the date stuffing a try too. Yumm...
Dates! Dates in a sunday roast! That's magnificent! I can just imagine the delicious sauce soaking into the polenta :)
ReplyDeleteoh lamb is our favorite! My kiwi husbands loves it!! Rosemary and all!

I don't eat meat so not so much in the Sunday roast, but we do love to pull out the slow cooker and make something that takes all day so it's ready when we're done with the day!
ReplyDeleteDid you lick the plate this time?! ha ha
ReplyDeleteI do love a Sunday roast! We'll get a Linda McCartney Roast - which tastes a bit like turkey - or I will make a nut wellington for Sunday lunch. Essential accompaniments - brussels sprouts (used to hate them when I lived in Oz but love them now), roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese. Mmmmmmm. That's next Sunday taken care of ;)
My mom used to do a Sunday roast, but now that I'm vegetarian the husband and I usually stick to some sort of Sunday casserole. It's just as yummy. I hope your week gets less hectic
ReplyDeleteGee, even to a veggie like me that looks delicious :-). We've never been a Sunday roast family as we're often out on Sundays but I enjoy a nice vegetarian roast from time to time. Hmm... think I'll put one on the menu plan for next week.
ReplyDeleteI love the addition of dates! I've never had a Sunday roast- even before I was a vegetarian, no one felt like cooking on Sundays. My family is lazy :)
ReplyDeletenot huge on the sunday pot roast, but holy moley i love this date-rosemary thing you've got going on :) looks delicious!!!
ReplyDeleteI love a good roast with veggies. Lamb would definitely be my favourite, but I really want to try cooking a pork belly roast.
ReplyDeleteThat looks really tasty. I've never tried to make a roast before but it's on my list of things to try.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very similar dinner last night...well kindof, except it was a whole amish chicken served over buttery egg noodles. ah I was so proud to eat it!
ReplyDeleteYum. Looks amazing, I've never had dates in a lamb roast. Did I say yum?
ReplyDeleteThat jus, the lamb, the polenta... I'm drooling all over my keyboard !
ReplyDeleteWe never had Sunday roasts growing up but it was something I was always curious about! I wish we did though-and love the pics with the mash and jus Lisa! :D
ReplyDeleteWe often had Sunday roasts growing up. With only the two of us I don't do them all that often, but when I do the leftovers are wonderful :)
