MOVE it, TONE it, DRINK it

While most of Australia is probably loving the fact that a 5-day weekend has officially begun, today I was a little reflective.

It all started when I realised that there are 30 days until my 30th birthday party (and 32 until my actual birthday!).

It seems like only yesterday that I left Melbourne at aged 17 and joined the army. It also seems like only yesterday that I then left the army, started at a civilian uni, and graduated with my degree when I was 22.

So where did the other 8 years disappear to??

Oh yeah, that's right, they were filled with meeting Mr BBB, getting married, and travelling through Thailand, Europe, and Japan.

And being attacked by deer ;)

Then there was starting a new job, then another new job, buying a house, building a house, developing a passion for photography, triathlon and fitness.

And let's not forget a little creative time filler aka Bake Bike Blog ;)

So with 30 days until my family and friends join me to celebrate a milestone birthday, and with race season now finished, I began reflecting on where I am fitness wise, and where I would like to be.

After all, why fall into my 30th year, when I can leap into it.

So, I have made a fitness commitment to myself. A "be your best" fitness commitment if you please. And, with the temperatures outside decreasing, the tendency to cut workouts short increasing, there seemed be no better time like the present than to kick my butt into gear.

So - starting today - and up until my birthday (at which time I am hoping my commitment is going well and strong) my game plan is to ….

MOVE it, TONE it, DRINK it. Let me explain...

MOVE IT

At least 1 hour of activity - every day.

Be it the gym, biking, weights, walking, yoga etc...or a combination. Without any specific training goals in mind - I have been working out fairly regularly - but my sessions have been shorter than I would like them to be. I think aiming for at least an hour of activity each day should be a great way to shake off the training blues, and bring my focus back to MOVING.

TONE IT:

Sit ups / push ups.

This one is simple. Unless they are included in a yoga or body pump class, lately I never do abdominal exercises or push ups. It is nothing but laziness. Which is silly considering I believe they are both such important parts of a training program. So my plan is to include sit ups and pushups on alternative days.

DRINK IT:

Water, water and more water.

Again, I have been reaching for warm cups of tea lately in place of my water bottle. I feel so much better when I am hydrated, yet I have been letting this slide lately. Time to get back on track, and be accountable.

So there you have it - my MOVE it, TONE it and DRINK it 30 day challenge.  And how was my first day?

  • MOVE it: Body Pump / Run 5km - 1.5hrs
  • TONE it: Pushups 24 (on feet)
  • DRINK it: 1.5L

1 day down - 29 to go. I say bring it!!

Happy Baking :)

  1. Lovely post (from someone who was focusing on the slightly more superficial aspects of the long weekend in their last post!). I like your goals too - and I'm super impressed with the 24 push ups. I can do NO push ups on my feet so I might now be prompted into action in that sense myself!

  2. I never knew you were in the army. This certainly looks like a great plan. Sit ups and push ups are also things that I have to work on too!

That aside, 32 days from now means 23rd May? That is just 1 day after my birthday!

  3. You've done so much in your short years! These are 3 great goals (although I would have thought you'd drink heaps already, being the champion athlete you are!) :) lol at the deer shot!

  8. good set of goals - I could do well to do the same - though probably wont - am sure 30 days will pass quickly so it is good to know how you want them to pass by!

  9. Water, water, water - I have to remember to drink more water! Why is that so hard?

  10. I too find it hard to fit in an hour of exercise every day (or six days a week), but it is my goal.

Is that photo with the deer in Nara in Japan?
