As you know, at the end of last year, Mr BBB and I moved into our new house. Since that time, we have slowly (but surely) started to work on what is literally a blank canvas, and make our house more of a home.
While I will be doing a big 'reveal' some time (hopefully) soon, I wanted to share with you my latest addition.
In our main living area, we have a huge blank wall that seemed very lonely and in need of some colour. However, not wanting to break the bank (more than we already have recently), a few weeks ago I decided I would try my hand at making my own art work.
I initially thought about painting some canvas, but when I came across some fabric at Spotlight a few weekends ago, I had a lightbulb moment. Canvas + fabric = wall art. Cheap and easy wall art to be precise.
So, with my new staple gun all primed and ready to go (I wont embarrass myself and tell you how long it took me to actually figure out how to work it) it was time to get crafty.
Starting with 3 canvases - that I picked up at a cheap shop for $8.50 each.
I then ironed some fabric, and cut out 3 rectangles, slightly larger than the canvas itself.
With the print side down, and the canvas laid centrally on the fabric, I worked around the edges using the staple gun to staple the fabric onto the frame.
Starting with a single staple in the centre of each long side – pulling the fabric tight.
Then working outwards from the central staples, until all the long edges had been secured.
Repeated along the shorter edges.
Secured in the corners….
And voila. One DIY artwork.
And, after repeating with the remaining two frames, I soon had myself a panel of artwork to brighten up our living room.
To hang the panels, we screwed in a hook to the top of each frame…
and I then ordered requested politely that Mr BBB get to work.
Actually, now I think of it, this part probably took the longest!
3 panels of DIY wall art - taking our blank wall from boring...
To bedazzled in no time at all!
Side by side....
What I love about this artwork is not only was it cheap and easy to make, if I ever get sick of the design, and want to create something with a different colour, it will simply be a matter of removing the current fabric and stapling on some new fabric.
