Aussie Farmers Direct

With time being in relatively short supply of late, I’ve been openly looking for inspiration when it comes to our meals. I’ve also been looking for convenience, while trying to keep healthy dinners on the menu.

I tried both Woolworths and Coles online shopping, but wasn’t taken by either of them (their produce was just ‘so 'so’ and I found a lot of their products were more expensive online than in my local store…weird).

I then heard about Aussie Farmers Direct, a company through which I could arrange a weekly produce delivery directly to my door.

Healthy? Yes.

Good inspiration for meals? Yes.

So recently I signed up for their vegetable box to come once a week (because although we may not each as much fruit as I would like, we certainly go through vegetables like there is no tomorrow).

Two weeks in – and I have been so very pleased thus far.

(Week 2)

It is actually a little like a weekly surprise gift – as before it is delivered – I never quite know what we will get. Last week we got some gorgeous silverbeet, for example, which I had never cooked with before – but is now my new favourite!

It has also encouraged me to get creative in the kitchen, and I have had a lot of fun planning our dinners around the produce received. I’ll blog about these dishes, but for now, here is a sneak peek…

While the quality of the produce stays good, I have no doubts that we will continue this delivery. So far it all been really fresh and lovely (aside from one questionable leek), and with another delivery due today- I’m already excited!

*nb – This was not in anyway a sponsored post. I just want to share with you my experiences of the deliveries thus far.

What about you? Do you get produce or grocery deliveries?

  1. I had to look up silverbeet, which is chard here in the US. We grow it in our garden :) I love it. We did the produce box for awhile, but the quality was hit or miss, so we canceled it.

I have to say, as the mother of a 16 day old, I'm in awe of the healthy meals you cook your family every day. I'm just too tired.

    1. It will get better Tia, I promise! I had my Mum in town for those first few weeks, and I am lucky that C is happy to watch me prep dinner in the afternoon.

  2. We've been getting Aussie Farmers deliveries for ... well, I think close to a couple of years now. As well as the fruit and veg we also get a weekend delivery of meat, bread and dairy. Between that and a once a month Coles delivery of non-perishables I basically don't have to go to the supermarket ever these days, it's brilliant! I also find that the online ordering helps a lot with budgeting as I can see the total on screen before I buy and so if it's over my set limit I can take things out, change brands etc before actually buying - plus there's less chance of impulse purchases ending up in the trolley :)

  3. My parents used to get this very delivery :) But my brother and sister at home and thus my Mum's cooking quantities vary hugely depending on which offspring decide to be at home for meals. Understandable, the delivery people needed a running order not a 'could be this one week and something quite different the next', so my Mum had stopped it!

  5. Can't wait for some of those recipes - they look so yummy. We get an organic delivery most weeks, but I choose what I want (we tried the mystery box - might work better for veggies than for fruit I think).

  6. I'm really fussy when it comes to the quality of fruit and vegetables, but this looks good!

  7. I've been thinking about this delivery for winter while our veggie garden its quiet, but in summer its pumping and I could probably give away a couple of boxes a week myself! Very interested to see what you think of the quality and consistency, so please keep us up dated :)

  8. I've thought about doing this but never been sure about which company - have considered this one - and I know someone who does all their shopping through I think the same one - glad to hear you find it inspirational

  10. Sadly they don't do it where I live. I do order the woolworths online and pickup but they only provide that at our 'dodgy woolworths' so I have had bad experiences so far. Hopefully local suppliers will decide to join in the aussie farmer direct network.
