I’ll admit that I have relatively good success in the kitchen.
But I’ll also admit that when I fail, I fail rather spectacularly.
And in the case of the curried potato rosti I made the other night, I am not joking when I tell you it was disgusting. Inedible even.
And that is saying something as I will eat pretty much anything!
It was all going along nicely, until I added this to the grated potato…
Quite lovely – normally – but not when you follow a recipe and use 2 tablespoons of it.
So into the pan went the curried grated potato, and I was none the wiser that this dish was headed down a path from which it would not recover.
On went the eggs, and into the oven to finish cooking.
In oblivion, I served the dish (sprinkled it with chives), and we sat down at the table ready to enjoy our dinner.
But one bite in – and it was all too obvious.
Too much curry powder.
In a “burn your mouth” kinda way.
In a “that is the most revolting thing I have eaten in a long time” kinda way.
Oh well, right idea, I suppose. Just an incredibly bad execution.
Next time I think I’ll stay well away from that curry powder and just go with the rosti and eggs.
What about you? Had any kitchen fails lately?

Oh honey, I've had my share of disasters too - I'm sure you saw my mention of my most recent beetroot/mint jelly concoction in today's post!!
ReplyDeleteIt's like having a bad run. You have to have a kitchen fail every now and then, and once you have one you can breathe a sigh of relief because your next effort will invariably be better! x
2.TEAspoons next time?
ReplyDeleteBahaha! At least it looks awesome! I'd prefer to fail spectacularly than fail just a little and suffer through eating a meal that's edible, but not enjoyable. Plus this way, you get a story out of it!
ReplyDeleteI am with Hannah - if you're going to fail, you may as well go all out :) And it does at least look pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so tasty as well. Give me anything with a recipe and I will most likely fail. It's like a green thumb but for cooking! That's why I generally just throw things together.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea though...
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame! I definitely have fails in the kitchen. My last one was roti which was so tough and I was so disappointed! :(
ReplyDeleteI seem to be having a run of disasters but nothing I couldn't eat - though most of mine tend to be a result of not following a recipe to the letter. I particularly hate it when you add something at the end and ruin a prefectly good meal. I once added a bad egg at the end of a meal and spoiled it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you could pry the eggs off it at least! I made weird little flat breads this week, not inedible but certainly un appetizing :)
