1. My treadmill arrived this week and I see myself taking a maiden voyage on it very very soon.
2. I’ve been “baking” up a storm this week – all things sweet. Honeycomb, rocky road, fudge. It has been deliciously wonderful. And then I impulse bought this cookbook yesterday…
So I expect the baking of sweet treats will continue! Luckily my treadmill arrived huh?!
3. Despite the above, I have a fear of cooking with sugar (toffee etc) which was kicked into overdrive when attempting to make the honeycomb (and I have the burns on my fingers to prove it).
I think, however, that I may have conquered the fear, at least to some extent – when my third batch of honeycomb turned out just as it should. Details to follow.
4. Perhaps I have been craving all things sugar this week, owing to a lack of one vital other ingredient.
Sleep.
Yes - my little ‘wake 2 maybe 3 times a night’ girl has turned into a ‘wake 6+ times a night’ girl. And I have the bags under my eyes to prove it.
(One unhappy baby burrito)
5. But lets not dwell on my impending sink into sleep-deprived craziness, or a hyperglycaemic coma.
For this weekend will include 2 fun ‘firsts’ for Charlotte. Her first swim session (more of a baby pool play session) and her first solids. Wish us luck!
What about you? Do you crave sweet foods when sleep is lacking?

She sure looks tired and unhappy in that photo. You probably look much the same. Except the sugar is keeping you afloat:)
ReplyDeleteGood on you for expanding your culinary skills. Your friends and family must love trying out all of your desserts.
Eek too many wakings! I just wrote about our sleep troubles. I think we figured it out. Good luck with solids! That's coming soon for us too,
ReplyDeleteoh i have got to make that honeycomb for the hubs. he misses his hokie pokie.
ReplyDeleteYep, everyone finds junk food more appealing when sleep deprived: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/246402.php
ReplyDeleteMy step sister and I used to make toffee ourselves when we were 9 and 10 years old, but for some silly reason I feel intimidated about boiling sugar now that I'm in my 30s!
I'm looking forward to your honeycomb post. :-)
Oh gosh, I hope you get back to the 2 (or fewer!) wakes per night. 6 sounds horrendous. Your honeycomb looks amazing though - super professional :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic honeycomb - hope the success helps soothe the sugar burns - and good luck with the sleeping - hope that lots of swimming and lots of food will make her want to sleep!
ReplyDeleteI am really looking forward to your honeycomb recipe! I'm in love with violet crumble but I've been having a hard time locating it in the states these days. Crossing my fingers the process isn't too challenging... burned fingers don't sound fun!
