One thing that may or not be apparent from my blog, is my love for organisation. Call it OCD. Call it control-freak. All I know is that I am much calmer when the spaces around me resemble something of order.
When we built our new house 18 months ago (how time flies) I was fortunate enough to have a say in the design of our kitchen. And I wasted no time in making sure that my ‘baking’ supplies would be well catered for – with the inclusion of a baking cupboard adjacent to our regular pantry.
(Pantry on the right, baking cupboard on the left)
The only problem being that it didn't take long until it looked like this…
Cluttered. Messy. And generally ugh. And not at all what I wanted it to be.
So one day, when I had a little time to spare (ahhh I remember those days…..) I got working on transforming my baking cupboard into something more efficient.
I started by pulling everything out of the cupboard so that I could see what I was working with.
Then with the help of plastic containers and a label maker…
All the haphazard packets of flours, toppings and other baking supplies turned into this…
And this…
Which then transformed by baking cupboard into this….
Much better! haha ok so the transformation may not be immediately apparent, but it is there. I assure you.
Let’s take a closer look…
At the top we have a shelf of flours, which when one is wheat intolerant, includes quite the variety.
Followed by a shelf of ‘toppings’. Think chia seeds, coconut, flaxseeds, nutritional yeast…
Next shelf down is what I like to call my ‘sugar shelf’ – containing all things sweet – along with some other baking goodies.
And finally, the last two shelves, contain the various kitchen gadgets I use a lot (food processors etc)…
And some that I don’t use all that often (bread maker, piping bags etc.)
To finish, I hung my two favourite aprons on the door, for easy access.
Using none other than those easy / removable picture hooks.
And there you have it! A little peek into the BBB baking cupboard (and into my love of all things organisation).
What about you? Are you a clutter queen? Or an organisation junkie?

I think I am fairly organized. Kitchen is one place I just cannot tolerate clutter.
ReplyDeleteI love this!! I am thinking guiltily to my own pantry which is big enough but a corner one and the things that get put in the back kinda get stuck there. And when you're a shortass it's kinda hard to be organised when you can't reach the top shelf!!
ReplyDeletethis is inspiring though. perhaps a rainy weekend project :)
Oh, this appeals to my OCD tendencies too :) My baking collection i on the lowest shelf of the pantry, which has the advantage of making it out of sight - it just will not stay organised no matter how I try! I need to take a leaf from your book and (a) find more space (haha) and (b) find more containers (always something I'm happy to do!).
ReplyDeleteI try and keep my pantry organised and have some sort of themes to many shelves but there is always more in my pantry than I am able to organise - all those tempting new ingredients wangle their way in as soon as it is organised but at least I know where everything is. Love your labels - I did sticky labels years ago and they are in need of updating
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic! I really want to do that but haven't gotten around to getting new containers or a label maker.
ReplyDeleteHeh I love being organised, but I'm also super lazy, which is a bit of a problem ;)
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do get a kick out of an organised pantry - eg http://kazza.id.au/2007/10/also-checking-in.html :)
I'M organized, but the rest of my family.. not so much! My laundry has my baking/ catering pantry and everything is lined up just right. I love organization and lists! Very impressed girl :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a fantastic, large pantry. And you are far more organized than I am! Great post, this inspires me to take control of my disorganized pantry! :)
ReplyDeleteI love having an organised pantry. Mine is pretty awesome after a cleaning/organising fit at Christmas time but I am still trying to find the perfect solution for my 30-40 bottles of spices!
