In keeping with my love of organisation, especially in the kitchen, I try not to have too many gadgets lying around. And you only have to walk into a homewares shop to realise that you could go quite crazy on the gadget front.
Mango slicers, egg separators, corn strippers - it seems they have a gadget for everything these days.
There are, however, some gadgets that I use almost every day in my cooking adventures. Gadgets that I would not give up for anything.
And in no particular order, here they are…
1. Sunbeam Stickmaster
This was a gift, and I fell in love instantly.
Great for blending soups straight in the pot, or using the little food processor to mix a dip or chop vegetables, this is one versatile gadget (with the added bonus being that it is easy to clean!).
2. Mundial chefs knives
I love love love these sharp, heavy weight knives – that make slicing and dicing at dinner time a breeze. Never will I go back to my blunt cheap knives again.
3. Microplane
This fine grater is perfect for zesting citrus fruit quickly and easily. I also have a bigger one for grating chocolate, cheese etc, but it is this finer one that I use the most.
4. Juicer
And while we are on the citrus front, this juicer (which is for limes and lemons) is just perfect for extracting juices with minimal fuss and mess.
5. Garlic press
This is certainly not a cheap option, but it is worth every cent.
No need to even peel the garlic before using it (and the latest model has a handy little tool to help get clean the garlic out of the holes too).
6. Icecream scoop
This was a recent purchase during our trip to Ikea.
A heavy duty icecream scoop that is getting quite the workout lately as my icecream addiction continues.
What about you? What is your favourite kitchen gadget?

It's funny that you posted this today because not even an hour ago I was preparing dinner, thinking to myself how much I LOVE my fine mesh strainer! It might be my most used kitchen tool lately...
ReplyDeleteI would really love a stick blender, when I make soup I have to put portions through my big blender if I want it to be smooth (not fun)

excellent selection - the ice cream scoop sounds odd but we bought two types of ice cream - in the middle of winter - so maybe not so strange.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post to read :) Our Global knife is one of my favourites - it makes such a difference to cutting vegetables! - and my food processor of course. You have a great list here!
ReplyDeleteLove the ice-cream scooper! Mine is a cheap one that never seems to make it through the ice-cream. I actually microwave my ice-cream to make it softer!
ReplyDeleteI love my immersion blender, such a nifty little tool.
ReplyDeleteI just love kitchen gadgets, And I have many, so many! Probably the one I use least its my potato ricer, but the niftiest is a little strawberry huller. The boys art work thought it was wussy until I blitzed through 10kgs of tomatoes in minutes while they struggled with their paring knives. It hulls and cores strawberries and tomatoes perfectly.
