Times are a changing

Thankyou all so much for your lovely comments about Miss C’s half birthday. We celebrated with a walk in the morning, followed by a play date with my Mother’s Group. It is remarkable to see just how much all the bubs in the group have grown – going from sleepy squinty newborns, to spirited youngsters sitting and reaching for the toys around them.

I apologise for the ‘baby overload’ at the moment, but along with C’s 6 month milestone have come some changes that I want to document -

* Last night was the first night she slept unswaddled – and I am pleased to report that she did no worse (and possibly even a little better) than when she slept swaddled.

* I am now introducing a third meal of solids – making it breakfast, lunch and dinner.

* In light of the above, I am also changing up C’s daytime naps, so that they will fit better around the 3 meals a day.

* Very very soon, C will be sleeping in her own room.

Before we put C to bed last night, I was anxious as to how it would all go. For we are adopting so many changes, in such a short time. Were we setting ourselves up for a week of hell???

But you want to know something?  So far she has been doing just fine. She slept relatively well unswaddled, she took a little breakfast this morning AND is currently fast asleep at her new morning nap time.

I don’t think I give this girl enough credit sometimes.

She is obviously far more adaptable than her Mum (who, by the way, is feeling rather sore today). It seems I spoke to soon when I sang the virtues of 6 months of breastfeeding yesterday, waking overnight with what I suspect is a blocked milk duct and with all the pain / swelling that goes along with it. I am not convinced it is mastitis, but my pharmacist told me to get it looked at by a doctor just in case. Fingers crossed it is nothing too sinister!

What about you? New Mums out there – how does your little one adapt to change?

  1. My little one is about 2 weeks younger than yours. We started her in her crib/own room this past weekend, so far it's going well except for when her arms get stuck in between the crib rails! She is a pretty flexible little one :)

  6. just had to say i cannot get ENOUGH of her spiky hair! it is the cutest cutest thing.

changes with annabel usually require a little adjustment - i'm sure it's the same with charlotte. but they do seem adapt quickly :) for example, i thought losing the swaddle would be terrible but it turned out not to be a big deal! and solids, too.
