New Year, New You - GIVEAWAY

As you almost certainly know, fitness is a big part of my life. Be it running (my current love), biking (my longed for love) or triathlon (my “I’ll get back to you one-day” love), I is no secret that I am far far happier when I am in my sneakers, than when I am in high heels.

So I think you will understand just how excited I am to tell you that I’ve partnered with Fitness First, my gym and a brand I am really happy with,  to work with them over the next 6 months as they undergo some fairly big changes and seek to redefine their business and member experiences.* Together we have a lot of fun things on the cards, which I can’t wait to share with you over the next few months.

Being January, a time when a lot of people are considering ‘change’, the rebranding seems rather timely indeed. And one that I am more than happy to get on board with, when I too am considering what  changes we can make in our household to keep us happy, healthy and hopeful in this New Year.

For while I am normally one who craves routine and stability, I am also mindful that without change, without goals, the year is likely to fly past at lightning speed. And unless we want to get left behind,  it is up to us to put a plan into place to ensure that we finish the year on a high note.

So this year, we’ve declared it a “year of family adventure”. And to help us along – we’ve created a bucket list …

Nothing too grand, or expensive. Just a nice mix of outdoors, indoors and fun – and most importantly – making  the most of the time we have together. A bit like a choose your own adventure really.

    I am new to your blog, so hello!

    I am extremely overweight and suffer from low blood pressure and low iron levels. These three together make it hard for me to excercise, so my goal for 2014 is to get moving. To walk daily and make sure I eat better.

    Thank you for helping to inspire me.

  2. OH MAN! That is an awesome prize. I have been dying for a skipping rope (I like to practice at the gym, but it is progressing very slowly... and more often than not I end up with giant welts all over my arms. But I will persevere!!) and a new gym bag!

    My change = be a little braver — in EVERYTHING! I want to take on new physical challenges (maybe, at age 26, I'll finally learn to ride a bike!). I want to be braver about seeking out new work opportunities. I want to be braver about meeting new people.

    That's it! Take more risks and reap the rewards :)

  3. Hi Lisa! I love your blog and have been following since before you had Charlotte. :) This year I'm going to focus on what I can change, and not on the things that I can't ("control the controllables"). Also - trying to eat less sugar and processed foods. It would help if my husband wouldn't snack at night...which then I must partake. Last, I want to be thankful everyday for the blessings that are already in my life. A year of positive thinking!

    Please keep up your posts - the Friday posts are my favorite!!

Lisa, I am inspired by your energy to keep fit... having had two strains of pneumonia AND glandular fever last year (I am still recovering), my aim this year is to get myself back to good physical health. I've just joined a gym with a PT and will start cycling again too as soon as I have reached a suitable state of fitness. Anyhoo, love your work.

  5. Hi there Lisa, I guess the main inspiration for change is FAMILY. Mine consists of husband, and his three girls. Unable to have my own children and as a result, a hysterectomy at 36, I've been on a roller coaster of weight gain, mood swings, and grabbing at every new "get fit/happy/thin/perfect" gimmick out there!! After a couple of years riding this merry go round, I've realised one thing is certain...there is no magic make-me-skinny pill or any secret to reaching fitness glory, you just have to move more and eat less...it's that simple (and that difficult) :) so that's the change I'm making...no more gimmicks just a plain, old fashioned, common sense approach to good health.   6. I had a challenging 2013 so my goal is to put myself firsts. I've always struggled with this, even to have 'me' time but I'm taking steps towards it everyday of 2014: going for a walk everyday, going off medication, enrolling in a diploma. Expanding my exercise routine is next!

  8. 2014 is all about simplifying. Cooking easier meals, finding more time in my day for things like crossfit and writing. Cutting out the hassles and the things that aren't worth my time in order to get more out of life!

  9. I think a family bucket list is a great idea. I have a summer adventure list which I hope to complete with my family. I want my girls to experience more of the outdoors and take in some new sights and sounds :)

  11. This year I am inspired to become a happy and healthier person for myself and my family. With a 6 month old daughter who was conceived through IVF to being diagnosed with post natal depression and anxiety....it is time to focus on ME for a little bit in order to benefit everybody. I am excited by what this year will bring! :)

  12. 2013 was my big year of change, particularly with regard to stress and mental health. This year is going to be about seriously implementing some of the healthy eating and exercise that I started experimenting with last year ... weight loss definitely being a part of the goal but overall health (due to it's effect on my 'headspace') is the main aim.

  13. I'm going to stop saying 'No' to everything, and let myself try new things without thinking 'I can't' or 'I shouldn't' before I've even had a go. I've learnt how amazingly strong the human body is, but now I need to work on the mind!

  14. I'm inspired by the idea of 'active living' - this year I'm striving to incorporate fitness into my everyday life rather than viewing it as a daunting task. I've started yoga and added bursts of running to my morning dog walking - it'll be good for both of us!

  15. We have already made changes within our family now the oldest two kids are enrolled into karate two times a week. We are trying to do a board game night as well. Now the hubby and I need to get back into a routine of running/walking or boot camping.

  16. I've already started exercising every day, because I've come to realisation that I'm not going to wake up one day and be thin & fit, it's something I need to work hard at every day.

    I feel like I've been a backseat passenger in my life for too long. This year I am going to take charge of my life. I will make a conscious decision each day to do what makes me happy and 2014 will be awesome!

    This year, I'm trying to minimise my life to the essentials. I'm sick of always being too busy and never having time for myself or my friends/family. So far I've quit one of my jobs, reduced my uni load, and have my weekends back!

  20. I want to prioritise myself more. I let my fitness and me-time slide after having a baby - there was always the child to look after, washing, cleaning and cooking to do. I want to set an example for my daughter I have a great, fulfilling life outside of 'motherhood'.
