The little weekend that wasn't

I cant help but feel that one of the hardest things about being a parent – is the unpredictability. Well, at least for someone who craves routine and loves to plan. Like me.

And this weekend was a reminder of just how quickly things can change.

Saturday started, as most Saturdays do. A lazy morning, lingering over breakfast and coffee. C was a little cranky, but we figured it was just the ‘daycare’ cold she had been battling all week on and off. She went off to a dance class with her Aunty, and we hit the trail for a bike ride.

8 ks in and the news came. C had been sick.

We hightailed it home to be greeted with a feverish and lethargic child, and proceeded to spend the next 24 hours in a cycle of vomit, clothing changes and sleeping on the chair next to her bed. We got the fever under control by  Sunday, but she was clearly out of sorts and with the weather outside being more akin to a Melbourne winter,  we were pretty much cooped up inside for the entire weekend.

Enter: Tea-parties, painting and too many episodes of the Wiggles.

And a toddler whose favourite word was “nooooooooooo” every time something was asked of her, and a Mama who was going a little stir crazy herself.

We have all of our fingers and toes crossed that she wakes up a little brighter today, and feels a lot better than she has over the last few days! For it certainly was the weekend that wasn’t!

What about you? What did you get up to over the weekend?
